11 Reasons We’re Thankful To Be In The Funeral Profession

Thanksgiving has always been one of the most important, meaningful events of the holiday season. Sure, Halloween is a fun day to get dressed up in spooky clothes and tell haunted tales, and all of the winter festivities throughout December really bring out the holiday spirit.

However, Thanksgiving is the one day throughout all of the holiday madness that we really get to sit down, relax with family and take a minute to appreciate all of the things we are thankful for that year (before we run off to the stores for Black Friday and show our appreciation for all of the crazy sale prices, of course.)

This Thanksgiving at funeralOne, we are especially grateful for the work that we get to do each and every day. We have the unique opportunity to create products that help uplift and inspire people during one of the most difficult moments of their lives. Just like you, we know that putting smiles on families’ faces is the number one thing that makes our job in funeral service worth it.

To help kick off the Thanksgiving spirit this year, we asked out funeralOne staff why they are thankful to be working in the funeral profession. Here is what they had to say:

Joey, CEO of funeralOne

“I am so thankful to wake up every day and spend time with people that I care about. I’m also thankful to be able to help millions of people all over the world go through what could potentially be the darkest moment in their life. Knowing that our products make a big difference in helping people cope with loss and remember the life that someone lived, it’s not just a sales pitch for us – it’s what makes us tick.”

Rochelle, Director of Marketing

“It’s such a gratifying feeling to know that you’ve made an impact during such an important moment in so many people’s lives. There is nothing better than knowing you’ve helped people remember the positive memories in what can be a very dark and depressing time. It’s so satisfying to help them to reflect on the moments they shared.”

Martim, Chief Product Officer

“Working in the funeral profession gives us the opportunity to change how people perceive death, making it all about celebrating the life lived. It is amazing to have an opportunity to help families, and to create an emotional connection with them through our products during one of the worst moments of their lives, and know that we were able to help them.”

Monica, Customer Success Specialist

“I am thankful for working in the funeral profession for many reasons. To name a few, the clients, mostly funeral directors, are very kind and gracious people. It makes helping them worthwhile. I think celebrating a life that was lived is very special and having the ability to share and help with that is a true blessing. Tomorrow is never promised…”

Vorrel, Director of Design

“Working in the funeral profession reminds me every day to take full advantage of every moment that I have. There are a lot people out there that aren’t so fortunate to be blessed with one more day. People are potentially interacting with the things that we create at a very difficult and trying time in their lives. They may have just lost someone dear to them, or are going through an illness with a loved one. They already have so much on their minds, the last thing we want to do is add to their grief. If we can create an experience that is simple and easy and allows them to get back to what’s truly important, then we’ve done our jobs.

On the other side of it, some of the products that we create are specifically created with the funeral directors in mind. We know they are genuine and caring people that are important in their communities. Furthermore, we know they are generally very busy people. They should be spending more time with families and less time behind a computer. That’s why we have created tools that allow them to quickly and easily create tributes that will honor their community members in the best way possible. If I have been able to make this most difficult of times just a little bit easier, then I’m glad to be of service.”

Lajos, Funeral Operations

“Working in funeral service provides a unique opportunity to help and connect with people during the loss of someone they loved.  By helping the family create a life celebration or traditional remembrance, we have the honor of walking alongside the family as they search for the hope of a better tomorrow. In doing so, I have learned important life lessons. Most importantly, I’ve learned that death is not to be feared – it is the very thing that makes life so important and valuable. And, living well everyday is the only way to live. No other profession allows the opportunity to make a significant difference in people’s lives and to learn crucial life lessons.  For these things, I am eternally thankful.”

Juliana, Product Owner of Life Tributes

“I’m thankful to be able to be part of a caring company that helps and comforts families when they need it most. I’m glad to part of something that, in the end of the day, put a smile on a sad face.”

Kyle, National Account Manager

“With so many reasons to be thankful this time of year, working with funeralOne to lead a movement of change for the funeral profession definitely ranks number one! Partnering with funeral home owners around the world and introducing new ways to connect, attract and educate families is not only exciting, it’s an honor. I love working with clients that share our passion for providing families a better experience by making innovative changes. I become even more grateful with every phone call I receive from new and existing clients that call to share their success stories and how we helped them create a positive impact for the families they serve. Here’s to another year of success!”

Mike, National Account Manager

“It has been almost five years since I had the opportunity to join funeralOne. I came here after owning my own business for nine years because of the vision the founder (Joey Joachim) had for the funeral profession in the next 5-10 years. His vision has exceeded my expectations and he has created a work environment that gives all employees the opportunity to be as successful as they desire to be.”

Steve, Customer Success Specialist

“I’m thankful for all the talented and super nice people that I get to work with every day. Building relationships with some of the most emotionally supportive people in this world (funeral directors) is a true honor. Not to mention, funeralOne’s relaxed dress code that allows me to wear slippers while I type this, and our summer BBQ’s in the parking lot which allows us to hang out with co-workers and relax.”

Mark, Tech Support Specialist

“I enjoy working in the funeral industry because I am able to see, first hand, the support we provide to funeral homes and families. Working at funeralOne as a tech support specialist allows me to help funeral homes, families, and individuals from all over. The loss of a loved one is a universal feeling that we all share. If I am able to contribute in any way to make the grieving process easier and help to create a lasting tribute that not only remembers, but honors someone’s life – then for that I am extremely thankful.”
